As I reflect on my path, gratitude fills my heart for the opportunities that have come my way. From intimate local shows to larger venues, each performance has been a vital building block toward my ultimate goal: to play in the European blues scene. Did you know that Europe boasts some of the largest blues festivals in the world, like the North Sea Jazz Festival, which attracts over 70,000 visitors annually? This only adds to my determination.

The Dream Begins

It all started at my cherished Cave Recording Studio, where my journey into blues recordings began. The moment I picked up my guitar and let the music flow, I knew I had found my passion. The blues has a rich history, with roots in African American communities, and I was excited to add my voice to this timeless genre.

However, as an artist in my age group, breaking into the "STARDOM" level on the blues circuit can feel overwhelming. The competition is intense, with countless emerging talents vying for attention. According to statistics, about 2 million new songs are released on platforms like Spotify each year, making it a tough landscape for any musician. Nevertheless, I hold on to hope that one day, I will get that elusive call to perform in Europe.

The Joy of Live Performances

One of the most rewarding parts of being a musician is the thrill of live performances. There's something invigorating about being on stage, sharing your music with an audience that deeply connects with your sound. Over the years, I've played at a variety of venues, each one offering its unique atmosphere.

I've experienced small bars with an audience of just 10 people, where close friends cheer me on, to festivals with over a thousand attendees, where the energy is electric. Each gig has left an everlasting mark on my heart, whether it's the laughter and cheers or the quiet moments of connection. For example, one night at a cozy bar, I played a song that moved a member of the audience to tears—moments like that solidify my love for live music.

The Challenges of Age and Identity

While navigating this journey, I am aware of the challenges that come with my age and identity. Blues has historically been dominated by certain demographics, making me question if my dream will remain out of reach.

It's easy to feel disheartened, especially when comparing myself to younger artists on the rise. However, I remind myself that music transcends age, and passion can shine through regardless of background. I continue to find inspiration from artists like Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Albert King Gowlin' Wolf who didn't see mainstream success until his late forties, proving it's never too late to make your mark.

Keeping the Dream Alive

Despite the challenges, I refuse to abandon my dream. I work tirelessly to improve my craft, writing new songs and experimenting with various sounds. The blues is a genre that thrives on authenticity, and I endeavor to bring my unique perspective to the forefront.

There are moments when the idea of abandoning the music scene for a simpler life crosses my mind. The allure of escaping the pressures of the industry can be tempting; however, my heart knows that I belong with the blues. Live performances act as a reminder that this journey is worth all the effort.

The Power of Community

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the blues community is the support and connection between musicians. I've met extraordinary artists throughout my journey—each with their own stories and challenges. Sharing experiences, collaborating on projects, and encouraging one another has become a vital source of inspiration.

Blues is about more than individual success; it is about lifting each other and celebrating the music we create together. The blues community is united, reminding me that I am not alone on this journey. We have each other, propelling us forward.

Looking Ahead

As I ponder the future, I am optimistic about what lies ahead. The music industry constantly evolves, presenting new opportunities. I stay proactive by seeking gigs, connecting with fellow musicians, and exploring innovative ways to share my music.

While the dream of playing in Europe may still feel far off, I understand that every step I take brings me closer to that goal. The journey is just as significant as the destination, and I am committed to relishing every moment along the way.

Embracing the Journey

In the end, pursuing stardom on the blues circuit is about more than just fame. It focuses on the memories we create, the connections we forge, and the rhythm that courses through our lives.

To anyone out there with a dream, I encourage you to hold on tight. Embrace the hurdles, celebrate the victories, and never forget the joy that music brings. After all, it is the journey that shapes us, and every note played is a step closer to our dreams.

Here's to the next chapter in this blues adventure—may it overflow with unforgettable moments and the sweet sound of music!
